I already knew about the EMABG, but it was connected to a Wageningen university website and email. Is this MSc programme different?

The current MSc programme is a re-designed iteration of the long running EMABG studies. The change of the website and email localization is due to a change in the coordination. The Wageningen-related website and email is not updated anymore, so in case of questions, please send us an email.

I do not understand what is meant by “study tracks”. Could you please explain?

The set-up of EMABG is such that students study at two different universities (within the Consortium). The four study tracks differ in their scientific and thematic focus. When asking for your preferred study tracks, we would like you to list your preferences regarding the universities where you would want to study if you were selected for the EMABG programme.

You should indicate your preferred study tracks in your letter of motivation, e.g. UGOE-SLU, WUR-NMBU, UGOE-APT or WUR/UGOE-NMBU, WUR/UGOE-SLU, WUR-BOKU.

I want to apply for the EMABG programme. What should I do?

Once the new application period is launched, you can register to the EMABG application database. Follow the steps described to submit your documents to the EMABG Consortium. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

I am still in my BSc studies. I will not graduate until the application deadline. What can I do?

Non-EU students can apply if they finish their studies (=graduation) until March 15th.
EU students can apply if they finish their studies (=graduation) until July 1st.
Until the application deadline, these students have to upload a letter written, signed and stamped by their university that they will finish their studies until March 15th/July 1st.
Please understand that we cannot make exceptions from this rule.
You are welcome to apply for the next call for applications. The period inbetween could be used to gather experiences in an internship, for example.

I already hold a Master’s degree. Can I still apply for the EMABG programme?

Yes, you can apply even if you already have a Master’s degree. However, note that Goettingen University cannot accept students that already hold a Master’s in a similar field of studies.

I have finished my Bachelor/Master studies in (name of study programme). Am I eligible to apply for the EMABG programme?

Please check our information given in the section on application and admission.
The EMABG Selection Committee needs to see your documents in order to decide if you are eligible for EMABG or not. Please upload your application documents to our application database.

I am not sure if I am a Programme Country student or Partner Country student? What is the difference?

Programme Countries:

Partner Countries:

Special rules:

  • Students who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, training or work) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in a Programme Country, count as Partner Country students. The five-year reference period for this 12-month rule is calculated backwards as from the submission deadline defined by the consortia of applying for an EMJMD student scholarship.
  • Students with dual nationality (of a Partner and of a Programme Country) must specify the nationality under which they submit their scholarship application.

I am from a Programme Country. Can I still apply for an EMABG scholarship?

Yes. A limited number of scholarships is available to excellent candidates from EU as well as Non-EU countries. Students will be selected according to the criteria listed in the selection criteria.

Applicants that are eligible for studying EMABG but have not been selected for scholarships will get the chance to study the programme at their own costs or with the help of third party funding.

Is the application for scholarships the same as the application for applying for the master programme itself?

When you apply for the EMABG programme, your application is considered for the EMJMD scholarships as well as for the master programme itself. The application deadlines are the same.

I just started my Bachelor studies but your programme sounds interesting. Should I apply already, even though I will graduate in two years’ time?

Please do not apply yet. The programme will accept student intakes until 2024. Please apply when the call for your respective start of studies is announced. Check our homepage for updates and news.

What can I provide instead of a certificate of residence?

The certificate of residence must be in English language and can be:

  • a residence certificate issued in accordance with your municipality’s registration rules
  • your national ID, which must be dated and state your current address or merged with a document (e.g. electricity bill) that lists your name and address
  • a certificate from your place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question. This certificate has to be dated and signed.

These documents must have been issued within 12 months before the submission deadline of applying for an EMJMD student scholarship.

Which English language tests are accepted for admission to the EMABG programme?

The accepted English language tests are listed in the section regarding application and admission.

I have a IELTS/TOEFL score that does not meet the overall score but my speaking and writing sub-scores meet the requirements. Will you still accept my application?

The language proficiency requirements listed on our homepage are the official requirements demanded by our partner universities. The results of your language certificate need to meet the overall score as well as the speaking and writing sub-scores.

The medium of instruction during my Bachelor studies was English. Do I still need to submit an official English language proficiency certificate?

Please note the following conditions:

  • Applicants who have completed their Bachelor or Master Degree in one of the following countries do not need to submit an English language proficiency certificate:
Australia, Ireland, Canada (except those educated at universities in Quebec), New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States of America.

All other applicants have to submit sufficient results of an English language proficiency certificate as stated in the admission criteria.
Please note: The Consortium partners have the right to request any applicant to submit an English language proficiency test.

I do not own a passport. Is it possible to apply without a passport?

The passport is an important document to check your identity. Please make sure to upload your passport until the application deadline.

My university degree certificate/transcript of records is in a language other than English. Do I need to have it translated?

If your university documents are in a language other than English, please make sure to upload the original documents, merged with an official English translation.

My transcript of records does not convert to ECTS points. How can I transform the scale?

Upload your documents as they are. The EMABG Consortium will check how your grades can be transferred to ECTS.

What kind of CV should I upload for my application?

Your CV should include personal details as well as information on your places and duration of studies and work. Please follow Europass guidelines as much as possible. Make sure to explain gaps in your CV. You can also add a list of publication and title of research projects or theses.

Who should my recommendation letter/motivation letter be addressed too?

Your letters can be addressed to the “Coordinators of the European Master in Animal Breeding and Genetics”. You do not need to add any names.

What are the requirements for my letter of motivation?

Your letter of motivation should be no longer than two A4 pages. There is no minimum word count. Make sure that all questions listed in the application database are covered. Remember to indicate your 1st, 2nd and 3rd preferred study track options and your motivation for choosing them.

What are the requirements for my letters of recommendation?

You need to upload two letters of recommendation from former professors or employers. The letters need to be from two different persons. The letters should also state your relation to these persons.

Could you provide me with a draft version/model of what the recommendation letter should look like?

We cannot provide you with a draft version of the recommendation letter as we do not want to influence what your professors or employers write about you. Most professors/employers will know which information the recommendation letter should entail. Please make sure that the letter mentions your education, knowledge and strengths as a student. It should also mention how the person knows you and how they assess your suitability for the programme.

  • Academic excellence including English language skills (final score share 40%)
  • Motivation letter (final score share 25%)
  • Work experience/professional qualifications/CV (final score share 25%) and
  • Recommendation letters (final score share 10%).

Available spaces will be filled up by the students from highest to lower ranks. Students who are not selected for scholarships but still received high scores will be able to participate in the programme if they can secure their own or third party funding.
